The Galaxy S21 FE is on a rocky road to reach the public – a road that has no sign of an off-ramp. The Fan Edition of the Galaxy S21 family has been widely expected since the success of the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition in 2021. Given that latter popped up near the end of Q3 last year, thegeekerati have been looking for a similar timescale.
That would have placed the S21 FE at Samsung’s Unpacked event in August. It was nowhere to be seen, the focus stayed on the next-generation of foldable devices, namely the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Neither did it pop up as a September event, and Samsung’s “Galaxy Unpacked Part 2” was another moment that could have been a launch platform for the S21 FE. We’re still waiting.
The latest thinking is that Samsung will launch the device in January. Given the Galaxy S22 family of handsets will be expected in the traditional mid-February window, the South Korean company will no doubt want to launch the last S21 handset before the S22 handsets are released.
Nevertheless, the Galaxy S21 FE is on its way. Supply chain sources suggest that manufacturing of the various components has started, and the leaks are starting to show up. The latest details have been put together by the teams at Let’s Go Digital and Concept Creator to give us our best look at the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE yet:
“Although the design of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE has been known for some time, official proof has not yet been released. Until today, because Jermaine Smit, aka Concept Creator , has managed to get a mock-up sample of the back of the Galaxy S21 FE. On YouTube, Jermaine has put a hands-on online, in which he goes deeper into the design and the expected features. The images used in this publication are also from the Dutch designer.”
The Galaxy S21 is expected to ship with a three-lens camera (32 megapixel wide-angle main, a 12 megapixel ultra wide, and an 8 megapixel telephoto); a 6.4 inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and an in-display fingerprint reader.
