Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra is likely to benefit from cutting-edge AI-powered improvements.

While the Galaxy S22 Ultra is predicted to feature broadly similar camera hardware to the current S21 Ultra, it is also tipped to deliver much-improved camera quality thanks to more powerful software-based image processing.
Now, new information from Ice Universe reveals how new AI-based capabilities will power a significant part of that quality improvement. According to the well-known leaker, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has added a new “AI detail enhancement” button which will give your photos “more details, colors and brightness” than ordinary 108-megapixel shots.
While any upgrade in quality is always welcome, it appears that at least some of the S22 Ultra’s quality improvements will require the user to tap a button and wait for additional processing to complete. This isn’t an option I can see most users using on the majority of their photos. However, the same could be said of the 108-megapixel mode in general, which is typically selected only in rare circumstances where ultra-high levels of detail are required.
In another tweet, the same leaker has stated that camera improvements in the Galaxy S22 UItra, when compared to its predecessor, will depend by 30 percent on improved hardware but a massive 70 percent on software optimizations.
I hope, therefore, that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will deliver additional AI-based camera improvements that boost image quality in general, without having to press an extra button.
The good news is that potential Galaxy S22 Ultra customers can expect a much-improved photographic experience, despite the phone’s rather modest hardware upgrades. On the other hand, there’s always potential for new software optimizations to trickle down into previous models, such as the S21 Ultra provided they have the required computing power to make use of them.
