Samsung Launches a Pair of Jeans With One Pocket for $1,100 – PCMag

Samsung thinks there are 450 people out there willing to pay $1,100 for a pair of jeans that only have one pocket. You do get a free smartphone as part of the deal, though.

Through a collaboration with Australian clothing brand Dr Denim, the South Korean company has created jeans specifically for carrying around the folding Galaxy Z Flip3 smartphone. The limited-edition jeans are called the Z Flip Pocket Denim and clearly form part of a marketing campaign for the diminutive size of the Flip3 (when folded). As Hayley Walton, Head of Brand Marketing at Samsung Mobile points out, “Smartphones are often not pocket friendly.”

Samsung argues that you don’t need large pockets when using the Flip3, so the typical back and front pockets were removed from these jeans. Instead there’s a front thigh pocket “scaled down to the exact dimensions of the Galaxy Z Flip3.”

Only 450 pairs are being produced, and they will cost AUS$1,400 each, so around $1,100 in the US. However, each pair comes with a free Flip3 smartphone included, which makes the price much easier to stomach if you consider the phone alone costs $1,000. Given the limited release, there’s also a chance the jeans and phone combo may end up being worth more than you paid for them in the future.
