Samsung’s large-scale #EpicUnboxing event has entered the Guinness World Records for the most people who unbox their smartphones at the same time. To achieve this, Samsung invited over 1,800 people from 17 cities to its event, which took place in India.

Samsung has set a Guinness World Record using a Galaxy S22 Ultra. Like many Guinness World Record’s, Samsung’s is oddly specific. As Samsung discusses in a press release, it invited people from 17 cities to an unboxing event, albeit only those who had pre-ordered a Galaxy S22 Ultra. Supposedly, Samsung then allowed these 1,820 people to unbox their pre-orders across several cities simultaneously.

Anyone who took part in this #EpicUnboxing event received their Galaxy S22 Ultra in a limited edition box, in which Samsung included a Galaxy Watch4 and a pair of Galaxy Buds2. Incidentally, Samsung has already started shipping the Galaxy S22 Ultra to people outside China; pre-order shipments began on February 25. Swapnil Dangarikar, an Official Adjudicator for Guinness World Records added:

It is my pleasure to announce that Samsung India Electronics Private Limited has set a new record for the ‘Most people unboxing simultaneously – multiple venues’ with 1820 successful participants. This fabulous event was organised across 19 venues and the delighted participants got their phone and became part of a record. A never been done before attempt, I congratulate Samsung on becoming Officially Amazing!

For reference, Samsung will start officially selling the Galaxy S22 series in India from tomorrow. However, people can already pre-order the trio from Samsung directly or through various third-party retailers. Evidently, Samsung is taking steps to foster good PR for the Galaxy S22 series following its GOS controversy, which led Geekbench to delist all recent Galaxy S smartphones from its databases.
