Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Flip4 clamshell foldable smartphone has passed a teardown video with flying colors – sort of. While the new flagship Android device was fully functional throughout the new clip, taking it apart in full still proved more difficult than average. In addition, it seems those who aspire to try this for themselves need to be particularly careful with some parts as they come out.
The Galaxy Z Flip4 suffered a somewhat mysterious injury during its stint as a JerryRigEverything durability test video subject. Therefore, it would be interesting to see if the OEM has made it any easier for a user to fix such damage themselves in this generation.
The famous smartphone stress-testing YouTuber was unable to discern an exact reason for the ominous popping noises made by the Z Flip4 in the course of its bend test. In addition, and in what was hopefully a freak accident, the device’s front-facing camera came apart entirely during the teardown, exposing its holographic CMOS to the world.
Then again, the device did its fast-emerging category of hardware proud by keeping its main flexible OLED screen on even as it was being peeled off its frame. The Z Flip4’s new gear-free hinge also emerged intact once the device was put back together – on the other hand, the smartphone’s closing mechanism still seemed as broken as ever after this otherwise successful teardown and re-assembly.
Then again, the JerryRigEverything host neglected to find out if it is possible to remove and replace its dual batteries: slightly disappointing, especially as that might become one of the top reasons for taking a Z Flip4 apart in the future.
All in all, the video might be counted an overall victory for durability among foldables, consistent with that of the Z Flip3 about 11 months ago. Now, it only remains to see if the Moto Razr 2022 can swoop in to challenge its Samsung rival on this channel soon.
