The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 have become eSIM-capable devices in the US for the first time, thanks to their new build of One UI 4.1. The new update, available for either unlocked or T-Mobile units of the 2 foldables, also confers a new security patch level and S22-series camera features.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 technically launched as dual-SIM devices, because they (like most newer iPhones) have eSIM support. However, this function has never been switched on in US-market units of either flagship foldables, whereas they are in other regions. The OEM has finally addressed this discrepancy with a new OTA pushed to the 2 devices.
It is available for the Fold3 and the Flip3 on T-Mobile, as the F926USQU1DVEE and F711USQU2DVEE software updates respectively, as well as for their unlocked counterparts (via the F926U1UEU1DVEE and F711U1UEU2DVEE firmware).
Therefore, installing the OTAs (which can take about 1.1GB to download) results in the appearance of a newly active SIM card manager option to appear under Settings/Connections. They also convert their respective units into Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) handsets.
Otherwise, the new updates upgrade their target Z Flip- and Fold-series devices to the June 1, 2022 security patch, as well as some of the latest Samsung camera features also associated with the Galaxy S22 conventional flagship series.
