In that vein, @UniverseIce believes that Samsung will continue optimising camera sensors over several years, rather than churning out new ones for every flagship smartphone release. However, the leaker asserts that Samsung will finally move on from 108 MP camera sensors in 2023, starting with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. For reference, Samsung used the ISOCELL HM1 in the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the ISOCELL HM2 in the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the HM2 again in the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
By contrast, @UniverseIce still thinks that Samsung will build the Galaxy S23 Ultra around a 200 MP camera sensor. Presumably, they are implying that the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and perhaps even its successor, will rely on the same 200 MP camera as the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
If Samsung’s rumoured changes for the 108 MP camera in next year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra are anything to go by, the camera changes from the Galaxy S23 Ultra to the Galaxy S24 Ultra could be small. Apparently, Samsung will introduce generational camera improvements this year mainly through software tweaks, not hardware ones. Potentially, Samsung could choose the ISOCELL HP1 for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but it probably would not confirm this until the device’s launch in early 2023.
