The release of the Samsung Exynos 2200 has seemingly been postponed. The new SoC with AMD RDNA 2 GPU was supposed to have been officially launched on January 11. The shocking situation has led to a claim that consumers in Europe and certain other markets may get the opportunity to purchase a Snapdragon-powered Samsung Galaxy S22 instead.

Hot on the heels of calling the Samsung Exynos 2200 the “worst flagship processor”, leaker Ice universe has now stated that the release of the Exynos 2200 has been postponed. The source also claims that things aren’t going well over at Samsung’s large-scale integration (LSI) division, which is responsible for Exynos development. The tipster also reminds followers that the Samsung Exynos 1200 was canceled despite originally being planned for a November launch.

Obviously, such a state has sparked a flurry of questions, especially in regard to the upcoming launch of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. The Exynos 2200 and its AMD GPU were likely to be headed for Galaxy S22 models for the Europe/Russia market while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 would be found in Galaxy S22 phones sold in the United States, Canada, China, and Japan (with rumors pointing to other markets such as India). However, a tech leaker called Dohyun Kim has now posted “RIP Exynos 2200” followed by a subsequent tweet that reveals a Snapdragon chipset will be used for the Korea, US, and Europe markets.

There will be plenty of Samsung fans who will be delighted about the opportunity to purchase a Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S22 in regions that are usually covered by Exynos-sporting Samsung Galaxy phones. A further rumor about the future of the Exynos 2200 is that it could appear in a different device later on in the year, which would make sense as it would give Samsung and AMD more time to tweak the performance of the CPU and GPU parts that might not be up to scratch at the moment.

To add insult to injury, Ice universe has opined that Samsung should simply “cancel Exynos and adopt Snapdragon”. If the South Korean manufacturer made such a drastic decision, it would come at a huge financial and reputational cost for both Samsung and AMD. There is a reasonable chance that Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S22 smartphones will appear on the shelves in Europe, Russia, and Korea, or the OEM might even delay the flagship series launch for those markets while the Exynos 2200 receives some final polishing.
